It is a Good Day for a Parade is a series inspired from the Macy's Day Parades of the 20s and 30s. The work of balloon artist/puppeteer Tony Sarg is what captivated Wheeler's imagination the first time he saw a black and white photo of a giant tadpole balloon in New York City. "I was captivated by the photo and balloon, it had such character and soul. As I browsed through the images of balloons that came after that era, it became apparent that a lot of that magic was lost due to improvements in technology and the blatant commercialism of the pieces."
Wheeler created his own animal creations out of various household materials and superimposed them into photos he has taken on his travels as an ode to imagination, innocence and character. “The idea was that these balloons were created by some sort of vigilante group that used large scraps/squares of material that were glued together to form these giant creatures.”
